Veterinary Care Program Update: Trixie Treet

Trixie Treet - Daisy Cares - Application for Non-Routine Veterinary CareAnimal Welfare

Trixie Treet, who will reach the ripe old age of 14 on Christmas Day, recently suffered from a collapsed trachea.  When her family realized they would need assistance to help pay for her care, Trixie Treet’s mom let us know all about her and how special she is to their family by applying for our DaisyCares Veterinary Care program.

After receiving a DaisyCares grant and getting the medical care she needed, we’re happy to report that the adorable little pooch is on the road to a complete recovery!

The DaisyCares Veterinary Care program was created to help needy pet owners with the cost of veterinary care for their pets. Today, more than ever, pet owners are faced with economic hardship, and too often do not have the resources to pay for veterinary care for their pets.  We strive to save pets’ lives and keep them with their owners by way of direct grants to qualifying pet owners.

If you know of a family who needs veterinary care assistance for their beloved pet, they can apply for assistance HERE.

We also welcome your financial support to help us  serve as many applicants as possible.  Our supporters can easily donate online. With your help, we’ll be able to keep families together and give a second chance to more animals like Trixie Treet.

Thanks in advance for your support!!!

BLACK FRIDAY TIP: Help DaisyCares with Free Dog Food from PetSmart

BLACK FRIDAY TIP: Free Pedigree Dog Food for DaisyCares BIG thanks to Jennifer King (aka  @SABudgetGrocery)! In case you don’t know, she’s the San Antonio Budget Grocery Examiner who helps all of us buy more and spend less.

Earlier this week, she reported on an incredible way to get your Black Friday fix AND help a great cause at the same time.

If any of you bargain hunters happen to land at one of the San Antonio area PetSmarts on Black Friday, please use Jennifer’s advice to score a free bag of Pedigree dog food…

Here’s the deal:  PetSmart has listed the 40-lb bag of Pedigree dog food on sale for $17.99 when customers use their free PetPerks card. There’s also a $20 PetSmart gift card attached to select packages, while supplies last. So you’ll pay $17.99 before tax, and you’ll receive a $20 gift card to use on your next trip to the store. That spells free dog food! If you happen to still have the $2 off Pedigree coupon from the October 17 Sunday paper, this freebie actually turns into a moneymaker — you’ll pay only $15.99 before tax, and then still get that $20 gift card.

This deal is only good TODAY, and we ask that you consider donating the free dog food to the San Antonio Food Bank, who accepts pet food donations for our DaisyCares program.

Your support and donations will help us to provide veterinary grants and pet food to families in need. The DaisyCares promise is to save pets’ lives while keeping them with their families.

Thanks in advance for helping pets and families in their time of need!!!

Veterinary Update: Chiquita

Last week we approved a veterinary grant for Chiquita, a 4-year-old dog who had injured her leg. We are always thrilled to help families who need assistance, and are even more thrilled when we hear back regarding the progress of these special pets.

Today we received an email from Chiquita’s family:

"This is Chiquita. Her little leg is better. She will have a limp, but will live okay with it. The vet said that the leg was fractured, but is healing well. We thank you for all your help."

Thank you to Chiquita’s family for keeping us updated on her status. We are hopeful she will have many healthy, happy years ahead of her!

Thank You: Christina Weinfeld

DaisyCares would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Christina Weinfeld and her amazing friends. A few weeks ago Christina celebrated her 50th birthday, and in lieu of gifts, she asked her friends and family to send donations to DaisyCares. What a selfless gesture!

Thanks to Christina and her generous friends, DaisyCares will now be able to save even more pets in the San Antonio community. Your thoughtful gifts are so greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Haley is just one of the many pets DaisyCares is able to help thanks to the DaisyCares Veterinary Grant Fund. Donations, like Christina's, make this outreach possible.

Veterinary Update: Happy Pals

One of our veterinary partners sent over a handful of pictures of recent DaisyCares Veterinary Grant recipients. These happy, four-legged friends have all been given a second chance at life.

Veterinary Update: Precious

Here’s a recent letter we received from a DaisyCares Veterinary Grant recipient – so glad Precious is doing better!

“I came across Precious the beginning of September on the east side of town. She is a street dog, and many people in the Wheatley Courts area feed and care for her. The day I met Precious, I noticed she was limping. When I assessed her, I found that her right rear leg appeared to be fractured. She was able to walk and was not in obvious pain.

On October 7, 2010, I took Precious to the vet, where she was evaluated and treated by the Doctor. The Doctor diagnosed a right femur fracture that was in the later stages of healing. Because it had been 4 weeks since the injury and Precious could walk, the Doctor elected not to splint or cast the leg. She said that the leg would probably always be shorter than her back left leg and that Precious would walk with a limp but that she expected her to make a full recovery.

The people who love and care for Precious could not afford the medical care she required. I am so grateful that DaisyCares stepped in to provide the financial resources to treat Precious’ injury and to give her a chance for a better life. Precious is a very fitting name for this little terrier mix. She was calm and gentle the whole time she was at the vet’s office being poked and prodded, and she immediately climbed into the back seat of my car and curled up to sleep as soon as she got in. She is truly a precious puppy!

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your compassion and generosity. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.”
